Ban calls
for global leadership:
"We must do more, not
less"
 United
Nations
Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon appealed
today for new
leadership on issues
ranging from the
crisis in financial
markets, to climate
change, to dramatic
increases in the
price of food during
opening remarks
at the 63rd session
of the UN General
Assembly in
New York.
"We face a global
financial crisis. We
face a global energy
crisis. A global food
crisis," Ban said. "To
put it bluntly, we face
a development emergency
-- and we must do more,
not less. We must do
more to help our fellow

violence and terrorism
from the Taliban, al-Qaida
and drug smugglers.

United States-led forces
