to stimulate informed discussion about the United Nations and
to serve as an outlet for important news and viewpoints on the
UN.

Documents Available to the Public On-Line:
The
UN has opened its Official Document System to the general
public via http://documents.un.org/.
The user-friendly database covers all types of
documents from duty stations worldwide and currently contains
nearly 800,000 files. Comprehensive
coverage is available beginning in 1993, and approximately
100,000 additional documents are added each year.
Among them are:select
coverage of General Assembly and Security Council
documentation (currently dating to 1985), including
resolutions of the General Assembly, Security Council,
Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council
from 1946 onwards; and select
documents of the regional commissions (the Economic and
Social Commission for Western Asia, Economic and Social
Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Economic Commission
for Latin America and the Caribbean and Economic
Commission for Europe).
