OUR
MISSION
The
mission of the United Nations Information Center is to
articulate UN priorities and activities on a timely basis, to
raise awareness of the UN and its work, and to strengthen
internal and external partnerships through outreach aiming at
enhancing public understanding of the substantive impact of the
Organization.
Office
hours: 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Location:
We are located on the corner of 18th
and K Streets, NW in the
Suffridge
Building. Metered parking
is available on K and 18th Streets.
Metro:
Our offices are one block from both Farragut North on the
red line (K Street
exit) and Farragut West on the orange and blue lines (18th
Street
exit).
For
security reasons, all guests are asked to stop at the front
security desk to sign in. Please
bring photo ID.
BASIC
INFORMATION MATERIALS
The
Center has publications covering basic information on the
UN and its activities. This
includes the UN Charter, Basic Facts, Image and Reality, UN in
Brief, Sixty Ways the United Nations Makes a Difference, and
others. Subjects include basic reference, human rights,
peacekeeping, women, children, and more. United Nations posters
are also available.
While
materials are free of charge, those wishing multiple
copies (10 or more) are asked to submit a written request
outlining the number of copies, titles of materials and
purpose/event for distributing the materials.
SPEAKERS/EVENTS
The
Center organizes seminars, panel discussion, briefings,
luncheons and other events featuring UN officials on a variety
of subjects. Often these events are co-sponsored by a number of
key partners in the NGO community. In
addition, the Director, Deputy Director and other staff are
available to speak at conferences, Model UN’s, classrooms,
news organizations, and other events.

REFERENCE CENTER
The
Reference
Center
is open to researchers and the public. The collection includes
official records of the General Assembly, Security Council and
Economic and Social Council from 1946 to the present. There is
also a selection of United Nations publications and statistical
references on a range of subjects.
Documents,
publications and videos are available by loan.
Model
UN groups and others wishing to conduct research should contact
the office for an appointment.
